Senior Financial Analyst

The Senior Financial Analyst (“SFA”) contributes to the overall success of the organization by effectively performing the accounting and financial external reporting activities for Toronto Hydro Electric System Limited (“THESL” or the “organization”).

 

The Incumbent is expected to behave ethically and follow the established code of business conduct, policies and internal control procedures, laws and regulations governing Toronto Hydro.

 

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Help manage the quarterly and annual external reporting notes preparation process, including preparation of audit working papers, benchmarking industry standards and proposing continuous improvements for disclosures;
  • Liaison with various business units and Finance groups to define and obtain information for reporting requirements;
  • Conduct directed review and analysis of IFRS reporting requirements and develop documentation to support recommendations for accounting policies & treatment;
  • Monitor/research proposed changes or industry developments related to changes made to accounting standards or external reporting requirements to assess impact and update information accordingly;
  • Evaluate and determine policy and process (financial and operational) changes to improve control and reporting;
  • Improve financial/internal control procedures to ensure that program and organizational risks are managed and to meet the Bill 198 (MI59-109) requirements;
  • Anticipate, understand, and respond to the needs of the internal and external clients (including operational units) related to financial and operational activities as required to meet organizational needs;
  • Support in year-end processes and changes to working paper requirements to comply with reporting standards.
  • Participate and/or complete ad hoc assignments as assigned.

 

Competencies:

  • Accounting Designation, CPA, C.A. preferred
  • Four (4) years progressive experience with working with Operations to develop accounting policy choices;
  • Excellent knowledge of IFRS and Securities (OSC) reporting requirements
  • Strong proven technical accounting knowledge and experience – IFRS or USGAAP
  • Strong computer skills including use of advanced Excel and Microsoft office applications
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills and ability to form an opinion and recommends alternatives and impact of each alternative
  • Excellent interpersonal skills demonstrating effective leadership in a team environment
  • Good project management skills coupled with the ability to communicate and work well with senior management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear and concise written reports and deliver technical presentations to non-accountants
  • Ability to independently manage and organize multiple work activities in order to meet established deadlines and priorities
  • Multi-task and interact with other skilled accountants to resolve challenging issues (accounting issues, operational processes)
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Well organized with strong attention to detail
  • Self-starter who is driven, customer focused and result oriented
  • Displays professionalism and problem solving skills
