The incumbent is responsible for the day-to-day project management of the Toronto Hydro Facilities capital program (including building construction/renovation), which includes work centers and station buildings. The Manager will lead and motivate a project team to achieve the key outcomes of the Facilities projects. Additionally, the incumbent may also be required to support portfolios such as Maintenance and Operations (building maintenance, cleaning, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, roofing), Security (contractor staff, systems and procedures) and/or Real Estate (records, disposals & acquisitions) as well. Potential opportunities exist for exposure to major strategic projects for the organization. The Manager would also support organizational programs related to business continuity, regulatory and legislative compliance within their portfolio. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Acts as project management champion for capital program, with emphasis on strong planning, streamlined execution and prompt closeout of projects.
  • Manages the systems and processes for the day-to-day operations of the assigned facilities portfolio.
  • Exhibits strong problem solving skills and resourcefulness to remove obstacles to progression of projects.
  • Functions as contract DRP for design firm/s, holding them accountable on design quality, schedule, engagement, collaboration.
  • Functions as contract DRP for construction firm/s, holding them accountable on safety, project performance, quality, engagement.
  • Flags potential risks with management, develops action plans to mitigate the risk and closes them out.
  • Supervises day-to day activities to comply with required environment, health and safety (EHS) legislation, regulations, policies, procedures and practices. 
  • Conducts office and field inspections and audits performance for alignment with requirements. 
  • Conducts incident investigations and root cause analysis (proactive and reactive) to continually drive EHS performance. 
  • Leads requests for proposal (RFP) for additional services as required.
  • Motivates and engage employee outcomes in the attainment of departmental goals and objectives; acts to address gaps in performance which may impact outcomes. 
  • Provides varied growth opportunities and supports specific rotations for all employees.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert to lead or participate in special facilities projects and/or organization-wide projects including property acquisitions and dispositions.
  • Participates in the development and preparation of the OEB application related to the Facilities 5 year plan.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Commerce, Operations, Facilities Management or other relevant area.
  • Five (5) years of project management experience in facilities or infrastructure projects
  • Three (3) to five (5) years progressive project leadership and/or supervisory experience.
  • Valid Class “G” Drivers License is required.
  • P.Eng is an asset
  • Project management professional (PMP) is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Building Automation Systems & Central Maintenance Management Systems, and SharePoint.
  • Experience managing complex asset management programs that include risk and impact ratings.
  • Familiar with Ontario Building Code, OHSA/ MOE regulations.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 and 55001 standards.
  • Ability to troubleshoot building mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Ability to handle complex situations, and resolve difficult or non-routine issues.
  • Experience in Project Management and the OHSA requirements (inspections, notifications, duties and forms).
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office including: Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Strong vendor management skills.
  • Stakeholder and engagement skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Financial acumen regarding budget planning, business case development and accruals.
  • Problem-solving and conflict management skills.
