The salary range shown above reflects the expected  compensation for this position. The final salary offered will be determined based on a holistic assessment of the candidate’s experience, education, training, and alignment with the role’s requirements. For positions covered by a collective agreement, placement within the range will follow the applicable step or classification.

 

Reporting to the Senior Manager, IT Portfolio Management (Enterprise Projects), the IT Technical Consultant provides technical and analytical support, performs trouble shooting functions, implements processes, systems or projects that contribute to the efficient and effective technical delivery in the operational areas of Information Technology.

 

This posting is to fill 1 position, which is an existing vacancy. Toronto Hydro reserves the right, in alignment with the applicable collective agreement, to finalize the number of positions filled.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops and communicates technical strategies and roadmaps for projects
  • Analyzes business/functional/technical requirements and specifications for the IT Systems
  • Works closely with stakeholders to ensure that the technical solution integrates seamlessly with existing systems and infrastructure
  • Ensures technical architecture follows best practices in terms of scalability, reliability, and security
  • Collaborates with development teams to ensure the architecture meets technical requirements and project goals
  • Installs, configures, maintains, enhances Information Technology systems software and hardware in accordance with corporate and security standards, for defined area of expertise
  • Supports and executes Information Technology System testing, deployment and upgrade activities
  • Creates and maintains documentation to support IT Systems and Processes
  • Experience evaluating software licensing and support contracts
  • Experienced in executing projects with both Waterfall and Agile methodology
  • Designs, defines, and implements scalable and cost-effective IT solutions aligned with business needs
  • Evaluates third-party solutions and recommends best-fit products and services
  • Leads the creation of prototypes and proofs of concept to demonstrate solutions
  • Ensures technical feasibility and optimal solution delivery within the project constraints (time, cost, scope)
  • Provides technical guidance to development teams and ensures proper implementation of architectural decisions
  • Supports and responds to service outages and incidents
  • Troubleshoots and maintains IT systems to improve reliability, capacity, performance
  • Experience working with IT asset management tools
  • Identifies problems and opportunities for improvement of IT Services, systems or processes
  • Performs administrative routines associated with the position
  • Knowledgeable in ITIL processes and best practices for IT Service Management
  • Experience and expertise in system integration across multiple systems

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • A post-secondary degree or diploma from a recognized university or college 
  • At least 7 years of experience in Information Technology and 3 years in solution design
  • Hands-on experience integrating platforms including WebSphere AIP, IBM Integration Bus, IBM ACE, MOVEit, SAP, and Cloud technologies. Proven ability to maintain existing integrations and design new interfaces to accommodate evolving business requirements 
  • Expertise in web technologies, content management platforms, and mobile app development, with experience in both Solution Architecture and Technical Consulting roles 
  • Experience with infrastructure support for networks and servers 
  • Experience with patching application software to ensure systems remain secure and meet business needs 
  • Proficient in SQL, Java, Shell Scripting, and Batch Scripts 
  • Proficient in creating solution blueprint and technical configuration documents
  • Solid understanding of device communications, including TCP/IP, PSTN, and wireless mesh networks 
  • Advanced knowledge of Windows, Linux, and AIX operating systems 
  • Skilled in ITIL processes and frameworks 
  • Capable of working effectively in a collaborative team environment 
  • Able to implement metrics and processes to track progress and achievements 
  • Creative thinker with a strong focus on innovation and problem-solving 
  • Effective at managing risks and ensuring they are mitigated 
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues 
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to safety awareness in all aspects of work 
  • Experience within the electrical utility sector is considered an asset

This position is based in a hybrid environment allowing for remote work two days per week, based on business needs. Employees will be required to come onsite Tuesday to Thursday. You are expected to live in Ontario and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.
