WORK ILLUSTRATION:

 

Reporting to the Manager, Infrastructure Operations, the Technical Consultant, implements processes, systems and projects that contribute to the efficient technical delivery of maintenance and improvement of Toronto Hydro’s Database infrastructure.

 

The incumbent is expected to behave ethically and follow the established code of business conduct, policies and internal control procedures, laws and regulations governing Toronto Hydro.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:  

 

  • “Hands-on” database management, performance tuning, capacity planning, troubleshooting, monitoring, and Disaster Recovery of Oracle 12c & 19c
  • Migrates and upgrades existing databases
  • Troubleshoots (diagnose & resolve) production issues
  • Installs and configures new databases
  • Provides after hours database support (i.e. On-call support)
  • Creates, maintains and tests disaster recovery plans
  • Routinely applies latest security patches, completes health checks along with other preventative measures
  • Documents Standard Operational Procedures (SOPs)
  • Ensures compliance with all appropriate architecture and security standards

 

REQUIREMENTS:                                                                                                    

 

  • Undergraduate degree or College diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline.

  • Minimum seven (7) years progressive experience in Database Administration.

  • Mandatory experience with the following:

    • Oracle database administration on Unix (AIX preferred)
    • Performance tuning and debugging
    • RMAN, Grid Control, and ASM
    • Setting up and maintaining Physical/Logical DataGuard
    • Monitoring and alerting tools such as OEM 19c
  • Strong communication skills: Ability to verbally communicate technical information to a wide range of audiences, including technical staff and senior management; Technical writing skills for documenting operational support guides and Buildbooks

Toronto Hydro has introduced a Hybrid Work Arrangement. This position allows for remote work up to three days per week, based on business needs.  Employees will be required to come onsite on those days when they are involved in activities that they or their leader feel are better conducted in person. You are expected to live in Ontario and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.
