The IT Architect (Data) is responsible for driving and creating innovative solutions to solve complex technical/technological challenges in order to deliver the highest level of reliability, efficiency and quality of information technology and systems. This role will be responsible for aligning technical initiatives, principles, IT roadmaps and practices with business needs and provide oversight for on premise and cloud-based solutions. The incumbent will work with internal and external stakeholders to develop, implement and manage the creation of industry leading technical standards including IT Asset Proof of Concept analysis. Additionally, the Data Architect will develop strategies to carry out IT risk evaluations and recommendations employing best practices in alignment with frameworks and IT standards while employing solutions to mitigate risks to acceptable levels.
 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops and implements comprehensive data architecture strategy aligned with business goals and IT strategy planning, solution design, conducting technical research, developing data analytics solutions and integration, proof of concepts and the creation of white papers to meet business needs
  • Works closely with stakeholders and data governance bodies to ensure data architecture aligns with business needs and regulatory requirements
  • Identifies IT Technology risk management requirements as it relates to enterprise data architecture and data governance, including the development, implementation and monitoring of the data strategy and roadmap for both physical and logical security; the identification of controls, barriers and technologies to support/improve the organization’s data posture; and the policies to ensure data accuracy, consistency and security.
  • Evaluates data analytics platform and solutions, technology standards, and frameworks for both on premise and on cloud solutions; gains consensus and approval from IT Senior leadership.  
  • Designs robust and scalable data models that define how data will be stored, processed, and accessed to verify data accuracy, privacy and security are maintained across all Toronto Hydro platforms.
  • Provides technical leadership for data solution design architecture to support business cases, including leading technical/technological Proof of Concepts for both hardware and software assets related to data dictionary, data catalog, big data, data orchestration, data visualization, etc.
  • Designs Data Asset Management model, including lifecycle and framework (aligned to corporate goals), that drives/improves data quality, reliability, accessibility, and security, thereby enhancing data-driven decision-making, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance
  • Develops standards operating procedures for all technology assets related to data
  • Manages and audits IT project execution and data governance policies in collaboration with stakeholders to assure technical standards compliance and/or exceptions
     

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Post secondary technical degree (e.g. Computer Science, Computer Engineering) with a suitable combination of education and relevant experience
  • Five (5) years professional experience in IT Enterprise/Solutions Architecture, data architecture, data management, and data integration
  • Five (5) years technical/project leadership experience
  • Graduate degree in a related field is an asset
  • Extensive experience in one or more domains; data modeling, database design, and data warehousing
  • Extensive experience of strategic development of standards, IT Risk Identification and Mitigation techniques.
  • Knowledge of and experience in the IT industry - cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and architecting hybrid data environments
  • Knowledge of Enterprise Architecture or Solution Architecture - data governance, data quality, and data security principles
  • Knowledge of Incident and Problem Management and Technical Governance structures
  • Knowledge of the current IT industry and system planning
  • Knowledge of safety by design and job planning for safety
  • Excellent computer and technology literacy and high proficiency in Integration, Reporting, Infrastructure, Operating System, Network and database management.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strategic and analytical thinking

 

 

Toronto Hydro has introduced a Hybrid Work Arrangement. This position allows for remote work up to three days per week, based on business needs.  Employees will be required to come onsite on those days when they are involved in activities that they or their leader feel are better conducted in person. You are expected to live in Ontario and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.
