Expected Salary Range: $104097 - $146959 Annually

Target Variable Performance Pay: 8%

The salary range shown above reflects the expected  compensation for this position. The final salary offered will be determined based on a holistic assessment of the candidate’s experience, education, training, and alignment with the role’s requirements. For positions covered by a collective agreement, placement within the range will follow the applicable step or classification.

This posting is to fill up to five (5) number of positions, at least one of which is an existing vacancy. Toronto Hydro reserves the right, in alignment with the applicable collective agreement, to finalize the number of positions filled.

Role Title: Engineer (Standards - Underground) & Engineer (Standards - Overhead) 

As an Engineer, you provide a wide range of engineering support services that will ensure technical soundness, reliability, safety and cost effectiveness of the utility and its Electrical Distribution Power System.  The Engineer develops standards and specifications; participates in short- and long-range strategic planning; prepares engineering, technical or business reports and studies, and demonstrates effective project management and process efficiencies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:                                           

• Prepares material and/or technical specifications and standards; reviews proposals from suppliers, contractors and consultants for technical merit and compliance; investigates and evaluates the application of new technologies
• Compares alternatives based on cost/benefit considerations, customer needs, safety, statistical analysis and engineering principles, and recommends the optimum solution
• Approves equipment/material to be used in Toronto Hydro systems, based on test reports/Drawings/Technical data/Quality records
• Prepare technical training documents and actively contribute to Standard Practice and Standard Design Practice document creation/update
• Acts as a change agent in adoption and continual use of standards across organization in design and construction stages
• Prepares engineering, technical or business reports and studies; performs analysis, testing and evaluations
• Provides timely technical support and consultation, demonstrates effective project management and process efficiencies; reviews, develops and/or presents business proposals, plans, designs, processes, operational procedures and practices
• Represents Toronto Hydro in external meetings and/or committees
• May be called upon to act as a team or project leader                                       

REQUIREMENTS:              

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
• 5+ years of Engineering experience, preferably in the utilities or manufacturing industry
• Professional Engineer in the province of Ontario
• Class “G” Drivers License strongly preferred
• Experience in design and specification development of electrical distribution equipment.
• Experience with development and application of utility standards for underground and overhead electrical distribution systems.
• Experience with grid automation, SCADA/DMS systems and protection & control systems.
• Fluent in the application of information technology, such as general office software, CADD, engineering records
• Experience in the use of engineering application software including CYME

Role Title: Engineer (Standards - Quality & Compliance) 

Reporting to the Manager, Quality and Compliance, the Engineer will provide a wide range of technical services in the development of quality assurance and compliance related programs to ensure the reliability, safety and cost effectiveness of the electrical distribution system is maintained. The department is heavily involved in equipment failure investigations and conducts root cause analysis to support the implementation of corrective and preventative actions that contributes to the reliability and safety of the distribution system.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:                                           

• Develops and maintains Quality Assurance processes within Toronto Hydro, ensuring that quality issues are effectively prioritized and analyzed as they arise.
• Conduct root cause analysis and investigations on equipment failures, material or process quality issues and identify preventative actions.
• Facilitate discussions to resolve issues arising from equipment failures, material or process quality issues, acting as a liaison between internal and external stakeholders; recommend changes to existing standards (from investigation outcomes), and/or to capital or maintenance programs, to improve quality and/or compliance.
• Collaborates with external suppliers, such as manufacturers and distributors, to ensure quality issues are resolved and actions are taken to prevent reoccurrence.
• Provides timely technical support and consultation, demonstrates effective project management and process efficiencies; reviews, develops and/or presents detailed business proposals, plans, designs, processes, operational procedures and practices.
• Compares alternative technical/business solutions based on cost/benefit considerations, customer needs, safety, statistical analysis and engineering principles, and recommends the optimum solution.
• Maintains internal databases and develops various reports as requested by internal groups or Management. 
• Resolves concerns or gaps identified through internal and/or external audits.
• Collaborates with various internal departments to streamline and improve compliance and quality assurance related activities.
• Participates on internal committees and project teams as required on a wide variety of business initiatives.
• Supports Senior Management on ad hoc assignments arising from various external committees.
• Participates in special investigations and studies, and prepares reports with findings and recommendations.
• Represents Toronto Hydro in external meetings and/or committees.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Registered Professional Engineer in the province of Ontario
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical Engineering preferred)
• Minimum 5+ years of Engineering experience
• Must have a valid Class G Drivers License
• Extensive experience of communicating with stakeholders on complex, technical issues is strongly preferred
• Knowledge of Quality Assurance and Quality Management Systems is an asset.
• Experience with performing root cause analysis and document findings, corrective and preventive actions in an engineering report format.
• Excellent problem solving and analytical ability, as well as organization and planning skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills demonstrated through report writing and delivering presentations.
• Fluent in the application of information technology, such as MS Office, data analysis software and database applications.
• Strong project management skills with the ability to bring projects in on time and on budget.
• Ability to adapt and work effectively through a variety of situations, collaborating with various individuals and groups, and willing to challenge the status quo.
• Self-motivated, operates with a high degree of independence and can visualize opportunities for change in support of continuous process improvement.
• Demonstrates versatile leadership; encourages organizational teamwork and collaboration, and takes educated risks to develop innovative solutions.
• Builds strong relationships with various stakeholders. Engage with execution, operation groups, warehouse staff and contractors as part of the equipment failure root cause analysis phase.

This position is based in a hybrid environment allowing for remote work two days per week, based on business needs. Employees will be required to come onsite Tuesday to Thursday. You are expected to live in Ontario and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.
