The salary range shown above reflects the expected compensation for this position. The final salary offered will be determined based on a holistic assessment of the candidate’s experience, education, training, and alignment with the role’s requirements. For positions covered by a collective agreement, placement within the range will follow the applicable step or classification.
Reporting to the Manager, Engineering, the Engineer provides a wide range of engineering support services that will ensure technical soundness, reliability, safety and cost effectiveness of the utility and its Electrical Distribution Power System. The Engineer is accountable and legally responsible for personal drawings, calculations, documents and the work of others for which the Engineer has signed. In addition, the Engineer will play an active role in completing strategic projects such as intelligent grid, system upgrades and the annual planning process.
This posting is to fill 1 position, which is an existing vacancy. Toronto Hydro reserves the right, in alignment with the applicable collective agreement, to finalize the number of positions filled.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepares engineering, technical or business reports and studies; performs options analysis, testing and evaluations
- Lead initiatives in short- and long-range strategic planning such as intelligent grid and annual portfolio planning process
- Own and lead capital portfolio business case development and approvals
- Able to independently make decisions in responding to emerging operational needs such as system contingencies, customer connections, major external projects etc.
- Provides timely technical support and consultation, demonstrates effective project management and process efficiencies; reviews, develops and/or presents business proposals, plans, designs, processes, operational procedures and practices.
- Accountable for the timely, technically accurate and cost effective application of engineering practices
- Compares alternatives based on cost/benefit considerations, system needs, customer needs, safety, statistical analysis and engineering principles, and recommends the optimal solution
- Undertakes special investigation and studies, and prepares reports with recommendations
- Prepares material and/or technical specifications and standards; reviews proposals from suppliers, contractors and consultants for technical merit and compliance; investigates and evaluates the application of new technologies
- Participates in implementing corporate goals
- Represents Toronto Hydro in external meetings and/or committees
- May be called upon to act as a team or project leader
- Performs root cause analyses of failure data
- Performs trend analyses of equipment data and determines appropriate actions to improve and optimize capital and operations programs
REQUIREMENTS:
- University degree in Electrical Engineering
- Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in the Province of Ontario
- 4+ years of experience, with a focus on distribution system analysis, capital project creation and justification along with understanding of Afield inspections and accurate project estimation based on field conditions.
- Experience in CYME will be an asset
- Fluent in the application of enterprise tools for planning and project estimation (i.e. GEAR, SAP, etc)
- Experience with data analysis and project reporting an asset
- Masters in Electrical Engineering will be an asset
- Experience in leading strategic projects end to end is an asset
- Valid Class “G” Drivers License recommended
- Project Management experience with good knowledge of planning processes is an asset
- Aptitude and experience in adapting to, managing and facilitating change demonstrated through self-motivation and stakeholdering
- Self-motivated, operates with a high degree of independence and can visualize possibilities and opportunities
- Internal and external Customer focused with strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to predict and understand technological trends and their effect on business or strategic work plans
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant safety and environmental legislation and regulations
- Demonstrates commitment to environment, health and safety
- Experience in data management
- Strong verbal and written communication skills that demonstrate relationship building
- Effective skills in project management operations, budgeting, business process and productivity improvements

This position is based in a hybrid environment allowing for remote work two days per week, based on business needs. Employees will be required to come onsite Tuesday to Thursday. You are expected to live in Ontario and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.
