WORK ILLUSTRATION:

 

As an Engineer, you provide a wide range of engineering support services that will ensure technical soundness, reliability, safety and cost effectiveness of the utility and its Electrical Distribution Power System. The Engineer will support customers through Development Planning responsibilities. This involves working with customers early on in the connection process by conducting capacity assessments and cost estimates, reaching out to developers or customers’ consultants to establish relationships, and undertaking design discussions to guide the development of connection configurations to better align with our Conditions of Service. The Engineer will work closely with various stakeholders in Toronto Hydro to relay information gathered from developer engagements to support internal planning process and capital project justification for short and long term system needs. The Engineer will also work closely with the Climate Action team on developing cost estimates to inform customer business cases and help accelerate building electrification projects.

 

The incumbent is expected to behave ethically and follow the established code of business conduct, policies and internal control procedures, laws and regulations governing Toronto Hydro.

 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:     

  • Perform technical analysis like capacity assessments, cost estimates and load forecasting
  • Liaise with customers, planners, technical consultants, and internal stakeholders to support connection conversations
  • Respond to technical requests and inquiries on Toronto Hydro’s Conditions of Service while seeking support from other business units as necessary
  • Translate customer requirements to internal stakeholders to provide an accurate description of customer needs to the organization
  • Develop the justification and business case for potential connection configuration options
  • Act as a single point of contact to address technical customer inquiries
  • Stay abreast of trends and technical innovations that translate into business development opportunities
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to promote potential solutions under specific lines of business and within our regulated framework.
  • Pursue a high level of internal and external client satisfaction, and foster a customer-centric focus
  • Review, develop and/or present business proposals, plans, designs, processes, operational procedures and practices
  • Manage relationships with inter-organizational business units and external customers as required
  • Provide technical support or leadership on strategic technical projects
  • May be called upon to act as a team or project leader

                                     

REQUIREMENTS:         

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum three (3) to five (5) years of Engineering and project/program management experience in the utilities industry
  • Professional Engineer in the province of Ontario
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification preferred
  • Valid Class “G” Drivers License strongly recommended
  • Excellent understanding of Toronto Hydro’s Conditions of Service
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of general utility business, knowledge of electrical distribution system design and operation
  • Excellent relationship management (soft people skills)
  • Customer service excellence and key account management skills
  • Superior interpersonal, verbal/written communications skills
  • Strong business development or customer-facing technical support role, desirable
  • Strong understanding of business development expectations, strategic selling basics and tactics, desirable
  • Effective skills in project management operations, budgeting, business process and productivity improvements
  • Aptitude and experience in adapting to, managing and facilitating change demonstrated through self-motivation and stakeholder management
  • Ability to predict and understand technological trends and their effect on business or strategic work plans
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the design and specification of protection, coordination and control systems used in power distribution and electrical substations
  • Experience working with the DER Connection Procedures (DERCP) and the Distribution System Code (DSC)
  • Fluent in the application of information technology, such as general office software, and engineering records
  • Experience in the use of power distribution network analysis software, such as CYME
  • Knowledge and experience in Alteryx and Tableau is preferred

Toronto Hydro has introduced a Hybrid Work Arrangement. This position allows for remote work up to three days per week, based on business needs.  Employees will be required to come onsite on those days when they are involved in activities that they or their leader feel are better conducted in person. You are expected to live in Ontario and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.
