Contract Law Clerk, Real Property




Reporting to the Manager, Commercial Services, the Law Clerk will be responsible for the coordination and maintenance of information and databases pertaining to real property and related transactions and contracts.


The Incumbent is expected to behave ethically and follow the established code of business conduct, policies and internal control procedures, laws and regulations governing Toronto Hydro.




  • Acts as a point of contact for the business units to real estate matters involving Toronto Hydro.
  • Provides support to legal counsel on Real Property matters.
  • Fulfills Toronto Hydro’s legislative requirements to accurately respond to third party easement inquiries which involve the analysis and interpretation of electronic records, drawings, agreements and correspondence to determine the interest that Toronto Hydro has in such property.
  • Conducts title searches, document registration and confirms title related matters concerning properties so that Toronto Hydro’s rights are properly protected and any new capital projects are properly designed.
  • Acts as the custodian of all Real Property records and the document management database to ensure they are maintained, updated and properly reflect the interest of Toronto Hydro and support all Real Property transactions



    Qualifications and Experience:

  • Law Clerk diploma or University degree in Legal Studies or a related field.
  • Minimum one year experience in Real Estate Law or Real Property.
  •  ILCO designation with a focus on Real Property.
  • Support the development of marketing activities for various programs including conservation and customer care.
  • Previous experience reviewing and analyzing legal title documentation, reference plans, surveys and drawings.
  • Must be able to demonstrate experience with Teraview.
  • Highly skilled in the use of Microsoft office software – Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Experience using a Document Management System such as OpenText.
  • Strong organizational skills, time management skills and office management skills and ability to prioritize effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Adaptable and flexible, with the ability to work in fast paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills demonstrating professionalism, sound decision-making and high quality customer service.
  • Demonstrated self-motivation, creativity, resourcefulness, and the ability to solve problems independently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail oriented – ensures work is completed with minimal errors.
  • Demonstrates customer focus -  Models customer focused approach in all decisions and actions; able to assert own ideas, persuade others and negotiate effectively.
