 The Climate Action Associate provides support to the Climate Action team in executing day-to-day duties and utilizes relevant technical and program delivery knowledge to support departmental decisions. The incumbent is responsible for program/initiative delivery support within the Climate Action team, including project management of programs and initiatives, funding application support, development of agreements, stakeholder management, market scans of potential partners and funding opportunities, process and procedures development, and procurement support.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Supports the implementation and development of climate action related projects and programs, including monitoring and reporting on achievement of milestones, deliverables and budget, and associated reporting that enable the provision of climate action program management and data driven solutions to advance the organization’s climate action goals
  • Assists the team with procurement and partnership development, contributing to the drafting of agreements/contracts with partners, vendors and others to achieve a smooth program implementation, effective communication of goals and processes
  • Assists in organizing outreach campaigns, workshops, and public events to promote climate action initiatives. Drafts presentations, memorandum, reports and other material for internal or external audiences to support climate action related engagement and communication
  • Provides departmental support related to financial forecasting, reporting on departmental projects, and the effective administration of departmental processes to monitor project expenditures and maintain accurate financial records
  • Collaborates with and provides data and analysis to support external stakeholder relationship management activities and strategies, including vendor performance management and trade ally network support
  • Conducts research and keeps current with best practices, legislation changes, new developments, and trends in order to strengthen the organization’s climate action initiatives.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Bachelor/ Undergraduate degree; environmental science, public policy, sustainability preferred
  • Post graduate degree would be an asset
  • Three (3) years of relevant professional experience; preferably in climate action, conservation programs or the electricity industry
  • Certificate/ Diploma in Climate/Sustainability is an asset
  • Solid understanding of role of the electricity system in mitigating climate change
  • Strong project coordination, contract management, report writing skills
  • Strong customer orientation
  • Excels at working in a team environment
  • Understanding of business development and procurement processes
  • Experience with grant writing and program business case development
  • Effective at synthesizing information into actionable recommendations
  • Technical understanding of electrical power distribution concerns and issues
  • Account management, strategic sales and relationship management skills
  • Excellent conceptual thinking, technical analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communications skills – verbal and written
  • Advanced computer skills and MS-office applications especially MS Excel. Proficient with MS

 

 

Toronto Hydro has introduced a Hybrid Work Arrangement. This position allows for remote work up to three days per week, based on business needs.  Employees will be required to come onsite on those days when they are involved in activities that they or their leader feel are better conducted in person. You are expected to live in Ontario and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.
