As we navigate a rapidly evolving energy landscape, we are seeking a strategic and results driven Chief of Staff to support our President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Executive Leadership team in achieving our corporate purpose.

 

The Chief of Staff is a key advisor and partner responsible for leading strategic and operational initiatives and projects on behalf of the President & CEO. They are required to prepare analysis on company’s operations as well as business updates and insights, for utilization by the President & CEO and/or Executive team members. They would advance organizational objectives and foster communication and collaboration with the Executive Team in decision making, program management and initiative implementation. This high impact role requires strong leadership, business acumen and the ability to manage complex initiatives in a fast-paced environment.

 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Leads the centralized strategic coordination, facilitation and consolidation of organizational programs and initiatives and CEO board materials, working cross functionally with the Executive team to align interdependencies and messages from one “voice”.
  • Manages the coordination of Office of the President.
  • Acts as a liaison with the CEO, Executive Team, Senior Leaders and employees to communicate objectives, messages and outcomes in an effort to advance and enhance divisional collaboration and productivity through stakeholder awareness.
  • Makes recommendations to enhance programs, procedures or tools to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of organizational operations.
  • Facilitates centralized planning of executive meetings and facilitates weekly executive team meetings, working with Executive Assistants to confirm materials are available in advance to support efficient and effective executive team decision-making.
  • Supports business planning through facilitating the forecasting, planning, execution and project reporting for identified initiatives to advance the organization’s corporate or operational position within the electricity business marketplace, including the identification and testing of corporate strategic objectives.   
  • Coordinates, and prepares as required, Board/Executive level reporting materials and presentations to support strategic decision-making and project tracking and reporting.
  • Coordinates and supports preparation for strategy sessions with the Board of the Directors, working closely with the President & CEO and Executive team to shape key messages, documents and presentations.
  • Tracks and reports the achievement of annual performance objectives stated to the Board of Directors.
  • Liaising with internal stakeholders, monitors progress toward the attainment of stated objectives, and reports on outcomes, risks and mitigation plans.
  • Proactively raises risks to President & CEO and/or Executive team for action planning and decision-making as required.
  • Authors and prepares reports for the President & CEO for the Board of Directors by consolidating inputs from across the organization.
  • Consolidates and organizes Board of Directors and Committee reports in advance of quarterly meetings for iterative review and feedback.
  • Monitors Board, Committee Meeting and Executive Team meeting performance and action logs to confirm items are completed and status communicated as required.
  • Gathers information and trends from internal and external environment to make recommendations or highlight issues to President & CEO and Executive Team for consideration.
  • Supports the preparation of internal and external communications
  • Represents the President & CEO at internal and external meetings and events, and engages, advocates or acts on their behalf to articulate the organization’s viewpoint or position, if the President & CEO or suitable executive is unavailable.
  • Facilitates communication and alignment with the CEO and Board Chair in advance of Board meetings through briefings, speaking notes and key messaging.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Undergraduate degree in business, communications or engineering (or related field of study)
  • Ten (10) or more years progressive experience at developing, managing and leading programs and projects with proven track record of successful delivery
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
  • Board room written and verbal communication experience (preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and cross functionally to achieve outcomes
  • Knowledge of the electricity industry and operations, regulations and stakeholders
  • Proactive problem-solving and risk mitigation

Toronto Hydro has introduced a Hybrid Work Arrangement. This position allows for remote work up to three days per week, based on business needs. Employees will be required to come onsite on those days when they are involved in activities that they or their leader feel are better conducted in person. You are expected to live in Ontario and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.
