CDM Key Account Consultant (Contract)

Reporting to Lead, Conservation & Demand Management (CDM) Business Development, the Key Account Consultant (KAC) engages in CDM business development and key account customer relationship management within a market segment on an account level.  The KAC is responsible for achieving CDM savings targets within an assigned customer base. The incumbent is expected to develop energy savings opportunities to help meet individual assigned CDM targets while maintaining close working relationships with key customers on behalf of other Toronto Hydro business interests and concerns. The incumbent collaborates with internal business units such as Operations, Marketing, and Finance, as well as, interacting with external organizations such as the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), Ontario Energy Board (OEB), and the other local distribution companies. The Key Account Consultant works closely with the Lead, CDM Business Development to plan sales activities and provide accurate sales forecasts.


The Incumbent is expected to behave ethically and follow the established code of business conduct, policies and internal control procedures, laws and regulations governing Toronto Hydro.



  • Works with customers, associations, channel partners and supply chain members to uncover and develop CDM projects in order to meet assigned CDM targets.
  • Assists customers or representative contractors in completing CDM incentive applications through economic analysis of opportunities, determining M&V methodologies, project eligibility, reviewing technical viability of specific projects and monitoring project progression through to completion 
  • Acts as the key relationship manager between THESL and key account customer by understanding the needs of the customer and communicating/resolving issues.
  • Responds to customer service enquiries with respect to electrical distribution issues and following up with operations and customer care as a single point of contact.
  • Provides a visible presence in the marketplace and remains abreast of general marketplace and relevant association issues in their sector.



  • University degree in engineering or a technical field, or equivalent qualification from experience
  • 3-5 plus years of experience in conservation programs or the electrical industry
  • Excellent understanding of business development and CDM program promotion
  • Knowledge and understanding of conservation technologies, Measurement & Verification requirements and methodologies
  • In-depth knowledge of electricity usage, billing and metering of commercial and industrial customers
  • Good technical understanding of electrical power distribution concerns and issues
  • Key account management, strategic sales and relationship management skills
  • Ability to manage sales targets and customer service KPIs
  • Conceptual thinking, engineering/technical analysis and problem solving skills
  • Effective communications skills – verbal and written
  • Advanced computer skills and MS-office applications
