WORK ILLUSTRATION:

 

Reporting to the Manager, Engineering (Grid Strategy), the Asset Investment Analyst (Grid Strategy) is responsible for assisting with and delivering upon projects related to a wide range of engineering support services, including short- and long-term strategies, solutions and operational plans for the modernization of Toronto Hydro's distribution grid assets and operational capabilities, including grid automation and integrating Distributed Energy Resources. In addition, the incumbent will be responsible for supporting the implementation of Toronto Hydro's grid modernization roadmap and associated planning and operational frameworks in collaboration with program leaders and stakeholders across the organization.

 

 The Grid Strategy team supports various key strategic projects within the department and Engineering division that require strong collaboration and effective communication with stakeholders across the organization. The Asset Investment Analyst will play a key role in leading and supporting these strategic change initiatives within the Grid Strategy team.

The incumbent is expected to behave ethically and follow the established code of business conduct, policies and internal control procedures, laws and regulations governing Toronto Hydro.

 

Successful candidates must possess the following competencies and will be pre-screened for those bolded, prior to the interview portion of the selection process. Competencies are listed in order of significance.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:       

  • Leads grid modernization projects to develop and execute short-term and long-term investment, business and/or technology plans
  • Conducts research and studies on technology and engineering trends and assists in developing the strategic roadmap, with particular emphasis on the modernization of the utility distribution system
  • Conducts analysis involving large data sets and multiple variables in response to data needs for investment and planning purposes
  • Leads and/or supports the development and implementation of innovation and continuous improvement initiatives to advance the utility's asset management capabilities and strategic asset management plan and co-developing grid innovation proposals
  • Provides project management support related to the execution of the strategic roadmap and aligns the roadmap to distribution system plans and regulatory filing
  • Supports in responding to stakeholder requirements and delivers strategic input for inclusion in regulatory filings and other business cases
  • Stays current with industry developments and practices, specifically those within grid modernization, distribution automation, innovation and the future energy system
  • Engages with a variety of team members and departments to manage strategic framework activities
  • Builds solid relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to achieve project goals
  • Demonstrates effective project management skills and conducts duties as a strong team player with demonstrated success in stakeholder management
  • Assists in defining project scope, drafting business cases, conducting feasibility studies and completing cost-benefit analysis
  • Provides project and administrative support as needed to support the achievement of departmental objectives and other initiatives being carried on within the Grid Strategy team
  • Works in accordance with safety performance standards and promotes a safety culture

                                    

 

REQUIREMENTS:     

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering preferred
  • Minimum three (3) years of relevant experience
  • Understanding of Ontario's electricity system, standards, and regulatory framework and utility experience preferred
  • Knowledge related to distribution automation (e.g. "FLISR," "ADMS"), Distributed Energy Resource Management Systems (DERMS) and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) capabilities considered an asset
  • Strong project management skills
  • Experience with Python/R, Alteryx, SQL and Tableau (preferably in a utility environment) considered an asset
  • Project management designation considered an asset
  • Certification in Asset Management considered an asset
  • Self-motivated, operates with a high degree of independence and takes ownership of work, striving for a standard of excellence
  • Aptitude and experience in adapting to, managing and facilitating change, as well as a willingness to challenge the status quo
  • Builds strong relationships and manages stakeholders across the organization in order to enable effective delivery of projects
  • Demonstrated leadership skills; strategic thinking, openness to new ideas, and strong communication skills
  • Fully proficient in the use of the entire Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Access, Project and Visio
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven effective problem-solving and analytical ability
  • Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills
  • Understanding of regulatory obligations and the rate application process for Local Distribution Companies considered an asset
  • Excellent analytical, technical, and business solution development skills, including the proven ability to function effectively in a dynamic environment

                                                  

Toronto Hydro has introduced a Hybrid Work Arrangement. This position allows for remote work up to three days per week, based on business needs.  Employees will be required to come onsite on those days when they are involved in activities that they or their leader feel are better conducted in person. You are expected to live in Ontario and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.
