The salary range shown above reflects the expected  compensation for this position. The final salary offered will be determined based on a holistic assessment of the candidate’s experience, education, training, and alignment with the role’s requirements. For positions covered by a collective agreement, placement within the range will follow the applicable step or classification.

 

Reporting to the Manager, Engineering, the Asset Investment Analyst provides engineering, analytical, and business planning support to advance the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of Toronto Hydro’s electrical distribution system. The role supports asset condition assessment, maintenance planning, asset analytics, and investment decision-making by translating technical data into actionable insights, risk-based recommendations, and business cases. The Asset Investment Analyst also contributes to the continued development of analytical capabilities, tools, standards, and processes across the division.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Lead continuous improvement in the development and application of Toronto Hydro’s Asset Condition Assessment process and framework.
  • Support maintenance planning activities and asset analytics to inform asset management decisions.
  • Standardize data usage, analytical methods, and reporting practices across Engineering.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and team members to support data analytics for short- and long-range planning processes.
  • Participate in the strategic development of the division’s analytics portfolio and support implementation of related initiatives.
  • Support the development of descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive models to enhance asset management decision-making.
  • Evaluate use cases for advanced analytics, including machine learning applications, and assess their applicability to asset management and planning needs.
  • Identify and support business process automation opportunities, including workflow improvements, reporting automation, and digital tool enhancements that improve efficiency, data quality, and decision-making.
  • Develop and support asset investment business cases, including financial analysis, risk assessment, benefit quantification, and investment prioritization.
  • Communicate with cross-departmental stakeholders to promote the effective use of analytics in day-to-day decision-making.
  • Prepare engineering, technical, and business reports, studies, analyses, tests, and evaluations.
  • Contribute to the implementation of corporate goals, objectives, and continuous improvement initiatives.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering; Electrical Engineering is preferred.
  • Three (3) to four (4) years of professional experience in data preparation, analysis, and reporting is required.
  • Experience with Python, R, Alteryx, SQL, Tableau, or similar analytical and visualization tools, preferably in a utility environment, is considered an asset.
  • Experience applying data analysis and data mining techniques to identify, assess, and resolve data gaps and quality issues.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including VBA.
  • Experience with Copperleaf, ENGIN, or similar asset investment planning tools is considered an asset.
  • Experience supporting business process automation, digital transformation, or IT-enabled process improvement initiatives is considered an asset.
  • Experience developing or supporting business cases for technology, analytics, or process improvement initiatives is considered an asset.
  • Effective skills in project management, budgeting, business process improvement, and productivity enhancement.
  • Knowledge of machine learning and artificial intelligence concepts, such as supervised and unsupervised learning models, with demonstrated project or work experience considered an asset.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate analytical findings into clear recommendations for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Knowledge or training in asset management practices is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of power systems, electrical distribution systems, and related computer applications is considered an asset.
  • Self-motivated and able to operate with a high degree of independence while identifying opportunities for change and continuous process improvement.
  • Demonstrated aptitude and experience in adapting to, managing, and facilitating change, including a willingness to challenge the status quo.
  • Strong relationship-building, collaboration, and negotiation skills.
  • Proven analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Customer-focused, with a commitment to service quality, accountability, and stakeholder support.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant safety and environmental legislation, regulations, and practices.

 

This position is based in a hybrid environment allowing for remote work two days per week, based on business needs. Employees will be required to come onsite Tuesday to Thursday. You are expected to live in Ontario and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.
